What is Heart Pine and is it all antique?
No, not all Heart Pine has to be reclaimed from barn and beams, trees still make it today, but those trees are harder to find than any other time in our history. Good thing you found us. Welcome to our New Heart Pine page and we hope to answer your questions or at least get you thinking about some good ones to ask us.

New Heart Pine is not New
New Heart Pine is not new at all. It simply differentiates the grade from antique heart pine. Heart pine, takes around 80 years to begin forming, so New Heart Pine cannot be taken from plantation style farming of Southern Pine, but #2 Knotty can- make sense?

Heart Pine sold by color
Heart Content can be heart or sap wood, sap runs from those gorgeous knots and are part of what gives heart pine its charm. However, you should not have a floor that is all sapwood, unless that is what you pay for! We tell the truth about your options, from character grade (seen on right with Bona Natural Finish) to antique reclaimed heart pine.

Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine
Antique Heart Pine-is a function of age and species, according to the USDA Forest Service “it takes 200 years for a longleaf pine to become mostly heartwood and be considered antique.” The term reclaimed is to re-purpose, such as a beam being repurposed into flooring. Antique Reclaimed Heart Pine is taken for beams taken from 200 year old trees. The ones that created this country, one at a time they are being repurposed into very expensive flooring. How much Heart Content? The Janka rating would say 100%, age has made it very hard.
